Fight to the death 🩸
Blood, guts, and glory. This is what it means to be a gladiator.
In truth, gladiators were slaves or prisoners of the Roman empire, but they were allowed to fight until death in order to entertain the citizens of Rome. Sometimes, but very rarely, volunteers from the public would risk everything to enter the arena and take their chance at becoming a legend.
For many, the promise of fame or an honorable death was too much to walk away from. Indeed, the most famous film about gladiators to date is "Gladiator" by director Ridley Scott.
And while the film is a made-up story, the fantasies the film inspired continue to reign in pop culture today.
